Forbes Chocolate

The Benjamin P. Forbes Company began in 1901 as a purveyor of chocolate syrup for the production of chocolate milk by dairies in the Cleveland, Ohio area.

In the 1920’s our founder, Benjamin P. Forbes, developed the powder system, instead of syrup, to make chocolate milk. By providing a vastly improved product, the market for chocolate milk was forever changed.

From only dairy chocolate powders in the beginning, the company has increased product offerings to include cocoa powders for ice cream, straight cocoa powders for various applications, flavored milk powders, chocolate flakes for ice cream, and finished food service drink mixes for upscale cafes and restaurants.

From Superior Street to West 14th Street to Industrial Parkway in Cleveland, our plants have been modernizing and increasing in efficiency to provide our loyal customers with the reliability for which we are known and the certainty that they will receive their specially produced cocoa powder exactly the same every time.

From the beginning with the Forbes family to the now Geringer family, as a company, we strive to remain dedicated to the principles that brought us this far—quality, integrity, and gratitude.
